Founded in 2013 by Tim and Paula Guthat, Cinema Detroit was Metro Detroit's only independent 7-day-a-week art house, serving a city underserved for film events for decades. After losing their Third Street location in 2023, this nonprofit continues as a pop-up operation, emphasizing films by and for historically marginalized communities while seeking a new permanent home.
